POTENCY AND MODERN MEN
Modern man also leads an unnatural life where most of his time and efforts are devoted to acquiring power and worldly goods like a car, a radio, a flat and furniture. Part of the sexual drive is therefore diverted into this channel. At work, he faces keen competition from colleagues. He feels others are getting ahead while he is left behind, which leads to unhealthy emotions like frustration, rivalry, fear, anxiety and self-pity. These unhealthy emotions further deprive the individual of nervous energy and result in diminished potency.
Fear of failure is the commonest cause of impotency in the younger age group. A man has to produce an erection during coitus (intercourse) and doubts in his mind that he may not succeed, results in impotence. Fear is due to lack of confidence in oneself about the power of erection. It acts as a brake and healthy sex cannot thrive where there are inhibitions or brakes. Thus, modern civilization, which is supposed to contribute to man's happiness and well-being, has led to increased sexual inadequacy and impotency.
